Changing the HP®
System's Hostname and/or IP Address

When changing either the Hostname or the IP address, the
hostname and IP address must be identical in the /etc/rc.config.d/netconf
and /etc/hosts file, and the hostname must be
consistent in the /usr/local/flexlm/licenses/license.dat
file for Visidaq to run. It is also possible that the hostname or IP
address may be used in other script files that you or someone at your
facility have written or enhanced. Here is a procedure for changing the
three files which are known to contain this information:
As superuser, edit the following files in the following order:
1. /etc/rc.config.d/netconf
To change the hostname, find the line starting:
HOSTNAME=
and change the entry inside the quotes that follow the equal sign.
To change the IP address, find the line starting:
IP_ADDRESS[0]=
and change the entry following the equal sign.
Note that this is a read-only file. To write it, use the vi command w!,
then q.
2. /usr/local/flexlm/licenses/license.dat
Find the line starting SERVER (this is usually the first line). Change
the word following SERVER to the new hostname. Be careful not to change
anything else as it could invalidate the license. Save with the ZZ
command.
3. /usr/hosts
Find the current hostname or IP address and change it to the new value.
You can change any other host’s IP address or add new hosts at this
time, if desired. Save with the ZZ command.
4. If you have edited any .profiles or .dtprofiles to change the DISPLAY
environment variable, such as DISPLAY=hostname:0.0, edit them and change
the hostname.
Carefully check your work (note: if the Hostname and IP
address are not identical in the /etc/rc.config.d/netconf
and /etc/hosts files you will not be able to reboot your
system). SO CHECK YOUR WORK BEFORE REBOOTING!
Then Reboot the system by entering:
/sbin/reboot -q
