Visidaq Etherdaq™

Network Data Acquisition Unit

Etherdaq is a network based Remote Data Acquisition Unit used to collect measurement values from groups of sensors which need to be located at substantial distances from each other and from the central recording and control system. Etherdaq provides a means by which to distribute localized analog to digital conversion of sensor voltages and transmit the Real-Time values back to the Central Recording and Control System via a dedicated Ethernet Local Area Network. It also provides capability for industry standard or custom designed signal conditioning boards or modules.

Etherdaq is powered by UEI's DNA cube product. The DNA cube is flexible in configuration. It can accept a various number of ADC boards and a various number of digital control boards. Etherdaq uses the 8 slot version of the DNA cube therefore 6 slots are available for a combination of ADC and Digital control boards.

Digital control boards can provide Real-Time control capabilities for external user devices and functions or be used for feature controls of custom signal conditioning boards. Examples of typical control functions, Visidaq Solutions has implemented for customers, are Excitation On/Off control for Load Cells, shunting precision resistors (RCALs) for Load Cells, and initiating Auto balance (Auto Zero Function).

Etherdaq sends collected and converted data via the Ethernet Local Area Network to a Centralized Recording and Control System. Typically, this is the Visidaq Model 6400C Data Acquisition system. This system provides the hardware and software to start the acquisition process from multiple Etherdaq Units. The Visidaq Pro X/rt Data Acquisition software package provides Real Time display, control and recording capabilities utilizing Strip Chart, X-Y Plot, Alpha-Numeric, Image, DVM, and Frequency Domain formats.

Etherdaq Units eliminate the need for long cable runs from distant sensors to the Data Acquisition system. Eliminating long cable runs eliminates noise pickup inherent to low level signals in long wires. Typical applications for Etherdaq Units are: Large Plant Facilities Monitoring, Chemical & Refinery Process Monitoring, Large Structures (Airplane Frame, Wing Span, Ship) Testing, Bridge & Tall Building Structures Monitoring, etc…
